The game is played on an 8x8 board with black and white squares
Each player starts with 16 pieces
Move one piece at a time on your turn
Each piece moves in a different way
King: moves one step in any direction
Queen: moves in all directions (straight and diagonal)
Rook: moves straight (up, down, left, right)
Bishop: moves diagonally
Knight: moves in “L” shape
Pawn: moves forward, attacks diagonally
Protect your king from attack
Put the opponent’s king in checkmate to win
